Incommodious.
How do you embarrass yourself in front of your new coursemates?
- Be late to class and forced to make a speech on why you're late, that's how.
I swear, this was a typical Wednesday for everyone. OSPE exam finished at about 11.30, so we ate an early lunch and went back to the hostel. After prayers Aina and I were already ready to go back to campus for the CHET class. A useless class really, but a class all the same. Fatihah didn't know that Prof Yong was teaching that day, and so she overslept. But everyone knows Prof Yong hates it if we aren't punctual. Aina and I knew, but we forgot right before class. So Nada and Fatihah got ready really late, by the time she drove us there it was already 2.05 pm.
Thank goodness there were a few boys coming in late as well. Imran and Ravi. At first, Imran was determined to go in and be cool. He was like "Just hold our heads up and be calm. be collected." Pft, yeah right. He didn't even had to explain himself! I'll tell you why in a minute. Fatihah and Ravi, both ex-foundation students at CUCMS, kind of knew what was coming for us latecomers, so they chickened out. Imran, Aina, Nada and I quickly took our seats at the back. Someone was talking at the front, but it wasn't Prof Yong. It was an Indonesian representative from a university there. Obviously I wouldn't know, but I could tell by his accent, lol. I took a quick glance and something was off. Two guys sat in the girls row.
Fatihah and Ravi didn't come to class at all.
After the guy left, Prof Yong asked "So, where are the latecomers?" Shiz.
The two boys who sat in the girls row stood up. So that's why they sat there. Nada was like "C'mon, let's just come clean." so we stood up also. There was nowhere to hide! She asked us to discuss with each other and make a speech IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS. And you know what? She said that the whole class were to judge us whether or not we should be forgiven.
She's cunning, this one.
Imran never got to explain as to why he was late. Curse him, he was the one who was so determined to go to class. Lucky git, haha. But one of the boys (I forgot his name) explained that he wanted to cash out some money because he ran out of them, but his card was being problematic and by the time they went back to campus they were late. At least he was being honest. For us, the natural thing to do was to lie, because telling everyone that Fatihah, who clearly wasn't there, overslept and we had to wait for her would be suspicious and waaaaay off. In the end I had to make the damn speech of how one of my housemates had a stomach ache (identity was kept a secret, lol) and added that I didn't think there would be any advice on how to avoid this because we can't tell our bowels to shut up and hold in whatever's inside of them. It was a really bad joke, but I got a few decent laughs.
Prof Yong didn't seem to think it was funny. She totally disagreed.
She said that we should've taken care of our health. IRRELEVANT TO THE MAX. It just so happens that she was 'sick' during Prof Yong's class. It was just bad luck. Under my breath, I muttered "I knew we should've just bailed." But in the end, if we hadn't go to class, she would have yelled at our other housemates because most of us weren't there, so it wasn't fair to them.
Whatever. It was still one of the most embarrassing moments ever. I'll be forever known as the girl who was late for class. It wasn't even an important one. Lmao.
EXAM IS OVER WOOOO. I need new shoes.
xoxo,
Zafirah.
