I really need to start reading the paper again. Because getting the information online doesn't feel the same as actually buying the daily paper. And hearing the soft sounds the paper makes when I flip through the pages. I'm being melodramatic, so I should stop now.
It's sad to think that my Physics lecturer was the first to inform us students of such an accident that happened to Malaysian student, Ashraf Haziq who was beaten up and then mugged during the London riots. At that time, hushed murmurs were heard from the people in the lecture hall, partly because it was a horrifying incident and also because we didn't have a clue about what goes on in the world. And I blame Physics for everything, it's because of YOU I have not gotten enough sleep. And I STILL don't freaking understand the subject. I need help.
But not as much as the poor guy, Ashraf. My lecturer told us about this on Thursday. So when I got back home, I searched the video and a few came up regarding the terrible episode. He was actually quite famous, because CNN news, BBC, Al-Jazirah and pretty much every major news network worldwide covered the story. People everywhere felt sorry for the guy, and he was being interviewed by loads of reporters concerning the matter at hand. The story was that the 20-year-old was riding his bike, minding his own business, when a group of people crowded around him and demanded he gave the bicycle to them. He also mentioned that some of the group members are as young as 11 years old. Sources say that he was also on his way to break fast at his friend's home nearby. After the thugs in the group beat him up and left him at the sidewalk, a few other people gathered around him and decided to 'help' him. When one of the guys helped Ashraf stand up, another douchebag took a hold of his backpack, unzipped it then took all his stuff and proceeded to walk the opposite way, all high and mighty.
Ashraf, who was bleeding severely and appeared to be shaken, have not the time to do anything except to just watch the guy take his possessions without a single fight. To be frank, watching the video almost brought me to tears. This guy is a foreign student who was on his way to break his fast when all of a sudden, this happened. Oh, what calamity! His jaw was broken, he was bleeding real bad, and then he got mugged. That's like a row of misfortunes happening in one time. Ashraf has only been there for a month or so. Way to welcome a foreigner into the country, fellas. Those airheads need to have a taste of their own medicine. Fortunately, the robber got caught a few days ago, but that doesn't take away the traumatizing experience that affected this young lad.
So basically, Ashraf Haziq, unknown to the world less than a week ago, became a worldwide sensation because he got beaten up and mugged by a bunch of asses? That's certainly interesting, although stuff like this happen daily in other parts of the world, his story actually spread out to the public. People everywhere were sympathizing him, and donations as much as 22000 pounds were collected for him. It's a good thing that he's being positive and not worrying too much about his recovery, and he made it clear that he intends to stay in London for the purpose of studying even though his parents wanted him to come back to Malaysia. This unfortunate occurence should not be something that holds him from achieving his dreams. He looks like a nice guy and he's getting a healthy amount of support from all over the world. Get well soon, and stay strong!
