The Lovers That Never Were

i know that my blog posts recently are all about me whining why my life sucks. well, i think i should stop posting my rants for a while (which is only for a few days because i never said my life doesn't suck anymore). here is a...wait for it...a short story of my dream! isn't that super?! HA. it revolves around ME and a supposed 'future' boyfriend of mine. yup, i ACTUALLY have a boy who likes me, the dorky girl. hah, anyway the story is a combination of narration and dialogues. the usual, i guess. the title is what i wrote up there, "the lovers that never were". it kinda sounds...ugh, just read it already.

.............................................................................................

Zafirah wakes up from her slumber and prepares for a big day; the LAST day of the semester exam in her college. it's a big day because it's the day she gets to celebrate the end of exam weeks with her sweet boyfriend (no name inserted because it's not actually real, haha). she worked hard for this last exam, and thought really hard of what to wear for her dinner with her beau tonight.

a few hours later, she went back to her dorm and jumped with glee. her exams are over, and now she gets to spend the rest of the afternoon watching tv, read some magazines and take a nap. her nap was shorter than usual, because she haven't forgotten the date she has with 'him'. she showers longer than usual and actually takes an hour to get dress. she always watch what she wears when she's going out with 'him'. she's never done this before, as he is the first one to have ever expressed his love to her. finally, she was ready.

she takes a taxi to the Pavillion and pays the driver. she's not someone who loves going out to places like these, but it's a treat to go there once in awhile. it's 'him' who'll pay the bills anyway :P she searched for his face everywhere, and finally, she saw him. they said hi, and he said he really likes what she's wearing; a leather jacket and a brown dress, with black pants and Converse sneakers, complete with a matching brown headscarf. sporty yet chic, he said. not that he's a fashion geek, but he knows a little something about it.

he congratulates her on working so hard for her exam just because she wants to go out with him tonight. of course it isn't true, because she works hard for herself, and not someone else. but she did say that if she thinks she hasn't worked hard enough, she won't go out with him tonight because she feels it's not right to do so. but she just nods her head.

the two 'lovers' were chatting animatedly; it's been awhile since they actually talked. Zafirah feels so happy, her mouth cannot keep from smiling. she is so lucky to have met 'him'. he's what she dreams of as the perfect one for her; he's funny, romantic, caring, sweet and humble. he likes her for who she is. he doesn't care if she's not perfect.

they go to a restaurant which he picks. she doesn't mind where they eat, so long as they're together. when they finish ordering the food, he excuses himself. and just then, a stranger walks by and sits right next to Zafirah.

Stranger : i'm sorry, but was that your boyfriend just now?
Zafirah : yeah, why you ask?
Stranger : i'm sorry, i'm really sorry. but he said...
Zafirah : he said what? wait, do you know him?
Stranger : yeah, i'm sorry,
Zafirah : [laughs] sorry for what?
Stranger : i thought...you two broke up. we've been dating for the last two months. i'm sorry that i'm telling you this. i thought you should know. i'm dumping him right now.

Zafirah was speechless. her only lover...brakes her heart. she knew that this would happen, but she can't believe this. she now knows that she's not right for anyone; she doesn't deserve anyone in this world because everyone's too good for her. the only person that's ever thought of her as someone he could be with, shatters her heart like a hammer breaking a glass to pieces. suddenly, she falls back to reality and he is there again. the girl is gone. he is there. Zafirah has never hated a person like she hates the person in front of her before. she loathes his face, his presence, everything. then she did what she never thought of doing.

Zafirah : i know that you're cheating.
Him : what?? where'd that come from.
Zafirah : shut it. just be honest. you cheated with a girl in your college.
Him : ......
Zafirah : admit IT!!
Him : hey, i'm so sorry. please, i'll never talk to her again.
Zafirah : come on, i'm not stupid. i've learned that whoever cheated will do it again. and you're not any different.
Him : i'm so, so sorry. i really am.
Zafirah : [sighs] i know you are. but i'm not sure if i can be with you anymore. i don't think what you ever said to me is true. i don't know if you've been honest with me. because you've been lying to my back, it's easy for you to lie in front of my face too. i'm gonna miss all of this. even though it's all just a big lie. i'm not good enough for anyone am i? you proved it to me yourself. so thanks a lot!
Him : please! i wasn't lying at all! it was all real, believe me. i can change.
Zafirah : as much as i believe that, i don't think you will. goodbye.

Zafirah left with a broken heart. but at least she left with poise and dignity. no way is any boy bringing her down. not even her sweetly fake ex-boyfriend.

The End.
